Aggression: This behaviour is often misinterpreted and diagnosed and it’s too easy to label a dog as “aggressive” when it is actually misunderstood.

This behaviour is often misinterpreted and diagnosed and it’s too easy to label a dog as “aggressive” when it is actually misunderstood. Aggression in its true form is thankfully rare however if you suspect your dog is aggressive please contact me for advice and help.

Dominance and Submission: Myths and Facts about Dog Dominance.

I don’t adhere to the popular concepts of Pack Leader, Dominance and Submission. Dominance has been scientifically debunked (click here for more information) it’s an outdated theory which has no bearing upon dog behaviour being borne of the term coined by human psychologists to explain human behaviour and this theory and its application to dogs has caused much conflict in families and can be dangerous if applied to the wrong dog.

Stress: Did you know that dogs can suffer from stress? Did you know it can affect them physically, mentally and emotionally too?

Did you know that dogs can suffer from stress? Did you know it can affect them physically, mentally and emotionally too? Just like us we need a small amount of stress in order to survive in certain situations and most dogs can cope with the daily stresses they feel. Some dogs however can become unbalanced for one reason or another such as inter dog fighting, illness, surgery, hormonal cycles, kennelling, abuse etc. Sometimes I need you to visit your veterinarian to have some tests done to rule out medical reasons behind behaviour. Sometimes it may be a matter of slightly altering the environment or adapting the behaviour of the family toward the dog to bring the necessary change in its stress levels and behaviour.

Sometimes, despite the best efforts of all involved, you may not end up with the “perfect dog”. I am not so arrogant to claim I know everything about dogs so if you are looking for a realistic and honest approach to your dogs behaviour modification or puppy training then contact me,  let’s talk.

SUB THRESHOLD TRAINING- I specialise in the sub-threshold training which involves discovering a dogs triggers for undesirable behaviour, keeping them below their trigger level we can then modify the behaviour enough for the dog to cope with a situation it previously found stressful, over exciting or anxious. Reducing the stress levels enables learning to take place.

Canine Body Language including calming signals: Most of a dogs’ communication is via body language and they are experts in reading and receiving it.

Most of a dogs’ communication is via body language and they are experts in reading and receiving it. I can teach you how to read your dog to communicate better thereby prevent misunderstanding. Calming or peace signals are a term used to explain the chains of behaviours expressed by dogs when communicating their mood in a peaceable way or to calm down a situation etc. Dogs also communicate mood when anxious, annoyed, happy, playful, sexual, frightened etc and learning what they are trying to say is really important in preventing accidents such as bites especially with children, it’s our responsibility to explain how to behave around dogs to younger children and can help them grow into adults which respect dogs.

Residential Training: See if your dog could benefit from house training.
